Dohnányi Season ticket / 3

Michael Haydn, five years younger than his brother Joseph Haydn, served for more than four decades in Mozart's birthtown of Salzburg. He composed in almost all the genres of the era, and was considered particularly excellent in sacred music: his elder brother bowed before Michael's church music, and at the beginning of the 19th century E. T. A. Hoffmann recalled him with a respect due to the greatest. "All those who understand music and know the musical repertoire know that as a composer of sacred music Michael Haydn is one of the greatest maestros of all times and all nations". In this concert, as well as one of the most virtuoso trumpet concertos of the era and Joseph Haydn's symphony there are two works written for the commemorative liturgy of the innocents, the children massacred after the birth of Jesus (innocentes martyres).
