Sapszon Season ticket / 1

The high music closely linked to the Christian liturgy and religious poetry over the millenium is inestimably rich in Magnificats, Stabat Maters, De profudises, and Vespers, and with time these all appeared outside the church too, in secular concerts. Hungarian composers of the 20th and 21st centuries are also fond of drawing on these old texts, in which they are able to look back over a highly varied tradition stretching from Gregorian chant to folksong. For instance, Zsolt Serei and Péter Zombola were inspired by medieval melodies, while András Szőllősy's staggering Stabat mater takes its inspiration from folk laments.
