For the sixth time, the New Year’s Concert invited classical music lovers to celebrate together on the first day of 2025. The joint concert of Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Liszt Academy was conducted by Domonkos Héja and broadcast live by Bartók Radio and Duna Television on 1st January.
New Year’s Concertwith the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (103 minutes, 2025)
The evening is a celebration not only for the audience, but also for the performers. In addition to flutists Gabriella Hegyesi and Rebeka Drahos, members of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, talented young soloists also performed at the concert with the participation of the Liszt Academy: oboist Éva Tarcsay, violinist Anna Lilla Székely and trombonist András Dénes. The 2025 repertoire included the most popular melodies by Verdi, Mozart, Erkel, Liszt, Léhár, Doppler and Brahms.
“Perhaps this is one of the best Hungarian dances, but we will also perform a movement from Shostakovich’s 2nd jazz suite, as well as a heart adapted from the music of the play The Girl from Arles, which we became familiar with through Bizet’s accompanying music. In short, there will be both well-known and less well-known pieces,” said Domonkos Héja, the conductor of the 2025 concert in M5 Agenda.
In the program on the Duna Television, those who followed the events on television could see the production of Győr Ballet choreographed by director László Velekei: to the Waltz of the Wild Roses by Ferenc Lehár, the interlude to Erkel’s opera László Hunyadi and the Keringő movement of Dimitrij Shostakovich’s 2nd Jazz Suite. The hostess of the evening was Szilvia Becze, the host of Bartók Radio.
The New Year’s Concert is the jewel of the cooperation between Liszt Academy, the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and MTVA – said Csaba Kutnyánszky, Vice-Rector of Liszt Academy in a previous interview – Nothing proves this better than the fact that tickets for the concert sold out months in advance.
