Conferral of Bartók Radio Music Awards

The awards have been bestowed in recognition of previous year’s outstanding musical achievements.

Bartók Radio Music Awards were presented for the second time on Wednesday evening at Budapest Music Centre (BMC). The awards were bestowed in eleven categories in recognition of previous year’s outstanding musical achievements.

The award for this year’s musical event acknowledged the opening of Ernő Dohnányi Music Centre, which took place on 30th September 2024. Since then, the music centre has been the new home of the Hungarian Radio Art Groups, and has also been housing state-of-the-art concert studios as well as rehearsal rooms for choirs and orchestras.

The 70-year-old Hungarian Radio Children’s Choir, founded in 1954 by Valéria Botka and her husband László Csányi, was recognised as this year’s musical group. This spring, the Choir celebrated the anniversary of its foundation with a gala concert, which featured the French Radio Children’s Choir as guest performer.

At the gala evening, cellist Miklós Perényi played compositions by Kurtág. Other performers of the gala concert included winner of last year’s Bartók Radio Music Award Kornél Fekete-Kovács led Modern Art Orchestra, as well as violinists Katalin Kokas and Éva Osztrosits, pianist Gergely Bogányi and two section leaders of the Hungarian Radio Children’s Choir, flutist Fruzsina Varga and harpist Klára Bábel.
