The Royal Opera House Muscat, in collaboration with Müpa Budapest, presents the grand opera “Sinbad: The Omani Sailor,” directed by Csaba Káel and staged with the participation of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Opera recounts one of the journeys of the legendary Arab adventurer.
At the end of September, the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra set off on tour again: this time they headed to Oman. Preparations for the performances began at the end of August, when the opera’s composer and conductor Hisham Ismail Gabr started rehearsing with the orchestra at Ernő Dohnányi Music Centre and Müpa Budapest. This contemporary opera, composed by Hisham Gabr to an original Arabic libretto by Nader Salah El Din, features singers, soloists and a choir of the Arab world, who are accompanied by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. “Sinbad: The Omani Sailor” presents a celebration of talent and extraordinary storytelling: this is a production that is rich in Omani identity, with costumes and sets richly inspired by the country’s traditional dresses and stunning natural landscapes.
In addition to two opera performances, at a unique evening the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, renowned for its exceptional interpretations and international collaborations, will present the traditions of Hungarian classical music to the Omani audience. The evening’s repertoire includes a captivating selection of Hungarian and Arabic masterpieces and compositions, and the concert also showcases the musical heritage of both countries. At this event to be staged in the Royal Opera House Muscat, the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Domonkos Héja.

“The Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will present a stunning contemporary Arabic opera at the Royal Opera House Muscat: in the production, the unique sound of authentic Arabic instruments is interwoven with Western orchestral music. The performance will be accompanied by a concert featuring works by Hungarian composers Liszt, Bartók and Kodály thereby creating a dialogue between two cultures rich in music,” says Musical Director of Hungarian Radio Art Groups Domonkos Héja.
The Royal Opera House Muscat will stage the adventures of Sinbad on two occasions: on 3rd and 5th October; and the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will give its concert on 4th October.
