The Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1943 was created at the instigation of Ernő Dohnányi, with active involvement of Vilmos Tátrai, Miklós Fehér, Antal Friss, Ödön Pártos, and Tibor Ney. On this important anniversary, the 75-year-old orchestra plays festive pieces composed for eminent occasions. The concert gives the chance to make a particularly interesting comparison between pieces composed by Ferenc Liszt and Ernő Dohnányi fifty years apart, in which the two composers made symphonic arrangements of the Hungarian National Anthem and the National Song, and it seems that Dohnányi's aim was to go one step further than Liszt in both structure and orchestration.
