Anno Sacri – Baroque evenings
PURPOSE. BELIEF. NATURE.
The first part of Telemann’s monumental oratorio was composed for a penitential occasion commemorating the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. At the conceptual centre of the work one finds not the pain of devastation, but – instead – the conviction that even destructive events such as storms and earthquakes do have a beneficial purpose behind them. The concert will also feature the most complex and beautiful motet by Johann Sebastian Bach, who was in fact Telemann’s close and deep friend.
Program
Bach: Jesu, meine freude motet, BWV. 227.
Telemann: Der Donnerode, TWV. 6:3.
